Begin
as you intend
to go on

By Alex Carrier

Excellent advice given me by my mother before I married. I have dutifully passed it on.

It is good advice except for one little, make that large, problem. How do you know how you intend to go on?

Baby Boomers have lots of experience with this troublesome conundrum when applied to technology.

Remember 8-track versus cassette tapes? The smaller cassette won but dusty 8-tracks still pack basements, attics and garage sales.

The Beta/VHS battle began. According to most techknow-it-alls of my acquaintance, Beta was the better format yet; VHS had better marketing and won out in the end.

A few Beta die-hards hoard their aging technology, pamper crumbling equipment and people a musty underground of those who knew better and still lost.

The current video-recording race rages between DVR and Blu Ray technology. I’m still trying to decide what to do with my library of VHS tapes.

Which brings me to websites. Having just survived the disruption and frustration of changing our host provider, I now find certain parts of our website need upgrading.

There should be an easier way. I am sure there is. My only question is – could someone please tell me how I intend to go on before I begin?
